The Troglodillo “Glass Skeleton” is one of the most striking and unusual terrestrial isopods in the hobby. Native to limestone cave systems in parts of Southeast Asia, this species gets its name from its incredibly translucent exoskeleton, which allows internal structures and segmentation to be faintly visible through the body. Under bright light, the animal almost appears as if it were made of glass.

Unlike many heavily armored isopods, the Glass Skeleton has a slender, delicate build with elongated legs and antennae, adaptations that help it navigate the humid cave environments it naturally inhabits. Its coloration is typically pale white to clear, sometimes with subtle hints of cream or light gray depending on age, diet, and lighting conditions.

In captivity, Troglodillo “Glass Skeleton” isopods prefer very humid enclosures with plenty of hiding spaces, such as cork bark, leaf litter, and limestone pieces that mimic their natural habitat. They thrive in stable, low-light environments and are most active during the night. Like other isopods, they act as excellent decomposers, feeding on decaying plant matter, wood, and organic debris.
