Sulawesi Yellow Hornet Millipede

The Sulawesi Yellow Hornet Millipede is a spectacular species known for its bold coloration and energetic personality. Native to the tropical forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia, this millipede stands out with its striking black body contrasted by bright yellow bands along each segment, giving it the appearance of a “hornet-like” pattern. The vivid coloration serves as a natural warning to predators and makes this species one of the most eye-catching millipedes in the hobby.

Adults are medium to large in size and develop the classic cylindrical millipede body with dozens of legs that move in smooth, wave-like motions as they explore their environment. Their glossy exoskeleton and high-contrast patterning make them particularly impressive in naturalistic terrarium setups.

In captivity, Sulawesi Yellow Hornet Millipedes thrive in warm, humid environments that replicate their tropical habitat. A deep substrate composed of decaying hardwood, leaf litter, and organic soil is essential, as much of their diet comes from decomposing plant material within the substrate itself. Additional leaf litter, rotting wood, and occasional vegetables can be offered as supplemental food. Maintaining high humidity with good ventilation helps ensure proper molting and overall health.
