The Porcellio flavomarginatus is a striking Mediterranean isopod species known for the distinctive white edging along the sides of its segmented body. This beautiful contrast against its darker body gives the species a unique and eye-catching appearance, making it a popular choice for collectors and display enclosures.
Native to dry Mediterranean regions, Porcellio flavomarginatus prefers well-ventilated enclosures with a relatively drier environment compared to many tropical isopods. They thrive in setups with a deep substrate containing organic soil, leaf litter, and decaying wood, along with plenty of cork bark or hides to shelter beneath.
This species is active and fast-moving, often exploring its enclosure in search of food. Their diet mainly consists of leaf litter, rotting wood, and other decomposing plant matter, though they benefit from occasional supplements such as vegetables, dried shrimp, or fish food for protein, along with a calcium source for healthy moulting.
