Porcellio expansus “Orange Tortosa” is a beautiful and highly desirable locale of Porcellio expansus, admired for its impressive size and warm orange coloration. Originating from the Tortosa region of Spain, this striking isopod stands out with its elongated body, bold segmentation, and vibrant tones that range from soft orange to deeper rust shades.

Adults of Porcellio expansus are known for their large size and distinctive appearance. The “Orange Tortosa” locale often displays rich orange hues across the body, sometimes accented with darker shading along the segments. Their long antennae and wide, armored plates give them a powerful and robust look that makes them a centerpiece species in many isopod collections.

In captivity, Porcellio expansus “Orange Tortosa” prefers a well-ventilated enclosure with a noticeable moisture gradient. Most of the enclosure should remain relatively dry, while one corner stays consistently moist to provide hydration and support proper molting. A substrate rich in leaf litter, decomposing hardwood, and calcium sources such as limestone or cuttlebone helps maintain healthy growth and strong exoskeletons.

These isopods are fairly active, often exploring their surroundings or resting beneath cork bark, stones, and pieces of wood. Their diet should primarily consist of decaying organic matter, supplemented with vegetables and occasional protein sources to support colony development.
