Shiro Utsuri isopods are a beautiful and eye-catching species known for their striking black and white pattern. Their contrasting colours resemble the pattern of Shiro Utsuri koi, which is where they get their name. Because of their unique appearance and relatively hardy nature, they are a popular choice among isopod keepers and collectors.
These isopods are active and fascinating to watch as they explore their enclosure, often hiding under bark or leaf litter during the day and becoming more active in the evening.
Care Guide
Enclosure
Shiro Utsuri isopods do well in plastic tubs or small terrariums with good ventilation.
A suitable setup should include:
• A deep, natural substrate
• Plenty of dried hardwood leaf litter
• Pieces of cork bark or decaying wood for hiding
• A small area of damp moss to provide moisture
Providing plenty of cover will help them feel secure and encourage natural behaviour.
