Cubaris sp. “Amber Ducky” is a stunning and highly sought-after isopod that captivates keepers with its warm amber coloration and adorable “rubber ducky” face shape. A color variation within the popular ducky-type Cubaris, this morph features rich golden, honey, and amber tones that give the isopods a glowing appearance, especially under bright lighting.
Like other ducky-type Cubaris, the Amber Ducky has a rounded body, pronounced head shield, and short antennae, which together create the characteristic “duck-like” facial appearance that collectors love. The smooth exoskeleton and deep, warm coloration make this morph particularly eye-catching when contrasted against dark substrate and leaf litter.
In captivity, Cubaris sp. “Amber Ducky” prefers warm, humid conditions with good ventilation. They thrive in enclosures with deep substrate, abundant leaf litter, cork bark hides, and pieces of decaying hardwood. Maintaining a high-humidity environment with a slight moisture gradient helps keep the colony healthy and active.
These isopods act as efficient detritivores, feeding on decomposing plant matter, wood, and supplemental foods such as calcium sources and protein-rich treats. While they can be slow to establish compared to hardier beginner species, stable conditions and patience will allow colonies to grow over time.
