Armadillidium Nebula/Skeleton

Armadillidium nebulosum, often known in the hobby as the “Nebula” or “Skeleton” isopod, is a truly eye-catching species prized for its unusual and intricate patterning. The body displays a pale base colour overlaid with dark markings that resemble a skeletal or cosmic “nebula” pattern, giving this species a very distinctive and almost artistic appearance.

This species belongs to the Armadillidium genus, meaning it has the classic ability to roll into a tight defensive ball when disturbed. Their unique markings and contrasting colours make them particularly striking against darker substrates, making them a great display species in both isopod enclosures and bioactive setups.

Armadillidium nebulosum prefers a well-ventilated enclosure with a clear moisture gradient, plenty of leaf litter, and natural hides such as cork bark and decaying wood. Like most isopods, they will graze on leaf litter and organic matter while also benefiting from supplemental foods and a good calcium source to support healthy growth.
