Ardentiella sp. “Wing Wing” is a rare and visually striking tropical isopod that is best suited to experienced keepers. Known for its vibrant colours and bold patterning, this species thrives in carefully maintained bioactive environments that replicate its natural forest habitat. With the right conditions, they can become an active and fascinating addition to any advanced isopod collection.
Enclosure
A well-ventilated enclosure is essential for this species. A small plastic or glass terrarium with secure ventilation works well. Provide plenty of natural materials such as cork bark, leaf litter, moss, and decaying hardwood so they can hide, climb, and forage naturally.
Substrate
Use a deep, nutrient-rich substrate made from organic soil, rotting wood, leaf litter, and flake soil. This allows the isopods to burrow and provides a constant food source as the organic materials slowly break down.
Temperature
Ardentiella “Wing Wing” prefers warm tropical temperatures, ideally between 22–26°C (72–79°F). Avoid sudden temperature drops or excessive heat.
Humidity
Maintain high humidity with good airflow. Keep one side of the enclosure slightly moist while allowing the other side to remain drier. This moisture gradient allows the isopods to regulate their environment naturally.
Diet
Their primary diet should consist of:
- Leaf litter
- Decaying hardwood
- Flake soil
You can occasionally supplement their diet with:
- Small amounts of vegetables
- Fish food or dried shrimp for protein
- Cuttlebone or calcium powder to support healthy exoskeleton development
