The Ardentiella  Phoenix is a truly eye-catching species that stands out in any isopod collection. Their dark bodies are highlighted by bright yellow markings that resemble flames, giving them their fitting “Phoenix” name.

This species is very active and enjoyable to observe, often exploring the enclosure and climbing cork bark or wood. Their semi-arboreal behaviour makes them an excellent display isopod when provided with plenty of vertical structure.

Yellow Phoenix are still considered a more specialist Ardentiella species, making them a great addition for keepers looking to expand their collection with something a little more unique. With the correct setup and stable conditions, they can establish well and become a thriving colony.

A fantastic choice for collectors wanting a rare and visually striking species.

Care Guide

Intermediate

Size

Adults reach approximately 2–2.3 cm.

Temperature

Best kept between 22–26°C.

Avoid temperatures dropping too low or exceeding 28°C for long periods.

Humidity

This species enjoys high humidity, but good ventilation is very important to prevent stale air.

The enclosure should include:

A moist side

A slightly drier side

This allows the isopods to regulate their own moisture needs.

Enclosure Setup

A naturalistic setup works best.

Recommended enclosure contents:

Deep moisture-holding substrate

Plenty of leaf litter (a key part of their diet)

Rotting hardwood

Cork bark pieces for climbing and hiding

Moss to help retain humidity

Providing vertical surfaces is beneficial as this species enjoys climbing.

Ardentiella Yellow Phoenix feed primarily on decaying organic matter, but additional foods help keep the colony healthy.

Suggested foods:

Leaf litter

Decaying wood
